Best Bottles for Babies – Top 5 Bottles for 2019

We live in a time when advancements in technology and production rates are increasing at the speed of light. I don’t know about you, but I feel like no matter what I am doing or where I am, I am constantly surrounded with advertisements claiming their products are the bee’s knees.

With all of these proclamations and bias ads flashing in your face, it can be a little overwhelming and somewhat confusing when it comes to deciding which items are the best fit for your needs.

Choosing the best bottle for your baby is no exception to this. I remember when I was pregnant, and being so caught off guard when I found out just how many kinds of bottles there were.

I knew I wanted to breastfeed, so I didn’t give this much thought. I figured I would buy a couple bottles so I could pump and have my husband help with nighttime feedings and call it good. I had no idea just how important a role the bottle would play in helping my child sleep.

A bottle helping a baby sleep, say whaaat? Yes it’s true! The bottle we used prevented air from passing through and eliminated painful gas from keeping our daughter awake.

I cannot stress enough, just how important a bottle can be, even when you are breastfeeding!

Guidelines For Finding the Perfect Bottle

I soon came to find that the reason there are so many bottles to choose from is because they’re all built to fit different needs. In order to help you choose which bottle will best fit your needs, I have come up with some guidelines for picking the perfect bottle:

  • Airflow – The amount of air that passes through the nipple will affect your baby’s tummy and could cause painful gas, resulting in a fussy, and sometimes inconsolable baby. Try to find a bottle that limits the amount of air passing through the nipple.
  • Nipple Shape – A big concern for mothers who are breastfeeding is that the nipple on the bottle will cause nipple confusion and affect the baby’s latch. Look for a bottle with a nipple shape that most closely resembles the shape of a human nipple to avoid any chance of nipple confusion.
  • Price – When I first found out I was pregnant and started shopping for my baby, something that really shocked me was the price of bottles. Some of these bottles were just outrageous! So being my thrifty self, I of course, aimed for the best bottle at the lowest price.
  • Usability – If that’s even a word, is extremely important. I learned quick that some bottles are just a pain in the you-know-what. Try to find a bottle that fits your needs but comes with the least amount of accessories. You can thank me later!

Whether you are breastfeeding, pumping, or formula feeding, a good bottle can make all the difference. These are the best bottles for babies in 2019.

#1. Tommee Tippee

According to our guidelines, our #1 baby bottle is the Tomme Tippee. This award-winning bottle completely fulfills all the guidelines I personally follow when choosing a bottle.

  • Airflow – 9 out of 10 This company had mommas in mind when they made it. With it’s anti-colic valve built into the nipple, it successfully prevents air from leaving the nipple and causing your baby to have a belly ache.
  • Nipple Shape – 9.8 out of 10 The Tommee Tippee comes with an award-winning nipple design that closely resembles a mother’s breast and flexes with the baby’s mouth, which significantly helps avoid nipple confusion.
  • Price – 8 out of 10 Costing $6.27 for a 9 oz bottle, I give this price a thumbs up! I know there are more affordable bottles out there, but this is the best bang for your buck!
  • Usability – 10 out of 10 This bottle gets a solid 10 for usability due to the limited number of pieces it requires for use. With just 4 pieces, set up is hassle free and easy for on-the-go feedings.

#2. Nuk

Coming in at #2, our runner-up is, the Nuk. This is the bottle we switched to, upon realizing the Dr. Brown’s just weren’t for us. Let me tell you, I am so glad we switched. My daughter loves these bottles and they are so much easier to use!

  • Airflow – 7 out of 10 The Nuk is designed with a venting hole in the nipple to prevent air from entering your baby’s belly. Compared to other bottles, the Nuk falls a little short when it comes to airflow. When my daughter was younger, I noticed more air would get through with these bottles and cause gas.
  • Nipple Shape – 9 out of 10 The nipple design of the Nuk closely resembles a mother’s breast and flexes with the baby’s mouth, which significantly helps avoid nipple confusion. It’s a wider nipple making it easier to switch between breastfeeding and bottle feeding. When I was breastfeeding, I personally loved this attribute of the Nuk.
  • Price – 9.7 out of 10 Costing $4.78 for a 9 oz bottle, the Nuk is a very affordable bottle, which is always a bonus!
  • Usability – 7 out of 10 When it comes to usability, this bottle only has 4 pieces making it way easier to use than the Dr. Brown’s. I give it an 8 in this department due to the fact that it tends to leak. I’ve noticed it leaks more with the faster-flowing nipples.

Overall personal rating: 8.2 out of 10

#3. ComoTomo

With the highest overall consumer rating on Amazon, our #3 bottle is the ComoTomo. This bottle is well-rounded, however, referring back to the guidelines listed above, it is a little pricey.

  • Airflow – 9 out of 10 This bottle was designed with colic in mind. Gas is believed to be a major cause in colic for babies. To reduce gas, you must reduce the air getting to the stomachs. The ComoTomo bottle has designed the nipple with a dual venting system to allow airflow in (for suction) and only milk out.
  • Nipple Shape – 9.8 out of 10 This bottle is recognized for having a nipple that most closely resembles a human nipple when compared to any other bottle. This is a big win for breastfeeding mommas!
  • Price – 3 out of 10 At $10 per 8 oz bottle, this bottle definitely falls short in the price tag department, which is why I personally don’t use them. However, I know there are mommas out there willing to pay whatever price if it means finding the perfect bottle! And I will say, the ComoTomo bottle definitely makes up for the price by fulfilling all other aspects of the guidelines in my list.
  • Usability – 10 out of 10 As far as usability goes, this bottle is a winner! With 4 simple pieces, this bottle is easy to use and great for on the go feedings.

#4. Avent Anti-Colic

Avent is no stranger to the world of babies. In fact, they are the #1 mom recommended brand. So, it’s easy to see how their bottle ended up on our top 5 list for the best bottles for babies.

  • Airflow – 9.8 out of 10 The Avent Anti-Colic bottle has a unique design, built with a valve to trap milk in the nipple and prevent air from getting through. This means that the nipple stays full of milk even when the bottle is laid horizontally.
  • Nipple Shape – 4 out of 10 Personally, I feel like the nipple on these bottles is a little outdated. Compared to newer brands with the wider nipples, I feel as though the Avent nipple design does not resemble a human nipple as closely as others.
  • Price – 9.5 out of 10 A 9 oz bottle costs $5, making this bottle very affordable.
  • Usability – 7 out of 10 As far as the usability score of this bottle, I gave it a 7 because although it has an extra piece for preventing air, it’s still more compact than the valve system in the Dr. Brown’s.

Overall personal rating: 7.6 out of 10

#5. Dr. Brown’s

Last but not least, is the Dr. Brown’s baby bottle. Claimed as Amazon’s best-seller, they are known for their anti-colic valve system, these bottles are the go-to for new moms.

  • Airflow – 10 out of 10 Dr. Brown’s bottles are made specifically for reducing air. These bottles are branded by the valve system they’ve created to prevent colic. I personally used these bottles with my daughter and found that they were great for eliminating air and reducing gas.
  • Nipple Shape – 5 out of 10 the nipple design on Dr. Brown’s bottles is very small and slender. They don’t necessarily do a great job of mimicking a human nipple. If nipple confusion is a concern for you, then I would not recommend these bottles. I used them while breastfeeding my daughter and noticed she would take a minute to latch onto me after using these bottles.
  • Price – 10 out of 10 Costing around $4.78 for a 9 oz bottle, I give this price a HUGE thumbs up! This is by far the most affordable bottle on the list and that’s a big bonus when bottle shopping.
  • Usability – 3 out of 10 When it comes to usability, this bottle is such a pain to use and is not ideal for traveling or feeding on the go. There are so many pieces which makes cleaning and putting together a difficult process. I switched bottles specifically for this reason.

Overall personal rating: 7 out of 10

Thanks for your post Madysen – this is perfect timing for me as my daughter has a 10 week old and is just starting to think about pumping – I’ve shared your article with her already! With 2 other kids under 5, she has her hands full and doesn’t have too much time to do the research.
